Prestar is doing its part to help the environment, here are some things we are doing that we think make a difference. Some people call it going green, we call it good business.
Prestar does a yearly phone book drive in our office building. Every year each office in our building gets two to three phone books that they seldom use. We are a drop off point and work with a recycling company to ensure these books are recycled. By collecting and recycling 500 phone books we help save:
7,000 gallons of water
3.3 cubic yards of landfill space
17 to 31 trees
4,100 kilowatts of electricity, enough to power an average home for six months
In 2010 we recycled 510 books in our drive
We shredded and recycled enough paper in 2009 to save 10 trees.
We deliver our reports in an Adobe Acrobat Document (.pdf) format to customers and agents via e-mail - saving about 30-80 pieces of paper per report.
In our office break room we discontinued purchasing bottled water, and bought a water filter for our tap. We estimate we have eliminated 1,000 plastic water bottles a year from impacting the environment.
Our employees are encouraged to print e-mails and other documents only when needed, and we all share one printer to avoid wasting energy.
We power down all of our computers, monitors, printers and copier after office hours.
Our office is only heated and cooled during business hours.
We reuse office supplies whenever we can. Paper file folders are reused, printed documents that are no longer needed are turned over and used as scrap paper and note pads.
Packaging and those pesky foam peanuts are taken to a pack and ship center to be recycled.
All lights are turned off after business hours.
Our copy machine is energy star rated and goes into standby mode after three minutes of idle time.
We recycle our cans and bottles.
